Designed for the 1906-built Casa Batlló dining room, the Batlló chair is a Gaudí with sweeping curves and surprising comfort. Beyond its abstract appearance, Casa Batlló represents Saint George, the patron saint of Catalunya and his victory over the dragon.

The bony chair complements the ridged roof and curving iron balconies of the building. The Batlló chair is manufactured following the method and material originally used by Gaudí, preserving the functional and sculptural aspects of the original design.

It has an outstretched backrest and curved seat that provides a high level of comfort. The Batlló is an exact reproduction of the original designed by Antoni Gaudí, and is accompanied by a certificate signed by the director of the Gaudí Cathedra.

]]> Gaudí’s Calvet Stool is beautifully designed with a unique form and presence. The Calvet stool was designed alongside a collection of furniture for the Calvet house. Rich contours and varnished grain swerve into a cornered backrest with minimal decorative elements allowing the quality of the materials to speak to their fullest.

The symmetrical structure sits on three legs and fits easily into a corner, while the dark mass of wood adds a natural lightness that demonstrates Gaudí’s bold, organic and eccentric style.

Designed in 1900-1901 for the Calvet House in Barcelona, the oak armchair is handcrafted the same way it was in Gaudi’s time. Five pieces are fitted together to form the thick neck, arched handles and heartshaped backrest of the carving body that explores Gaudí’s unique artistry and expressive force.

Ettore Sottsass designed the table with a confident shape and bright colour. It is bold and powerful. It is constantly new. Italian architect, industrial designer, innovator and artist Ettore Sottsass designed the Mettsass table for BD in 1972, almost a decade before he co-founded the Memphis movement, which changed modern design forever. He was always an experimenter, and his obsession with non-conformity defined the architecture of the Mettsass with flat steel slats, a vibrant red veneer and a careful aesthetic and emotion. The colour and geometry are bold and striking, a far cry from the Bauhaus minimalism of the time. Reissued in 2012 and still in production today, the Mettsass remains functional but has a sensory dimension that is traditionally inaccessible. It functions as a table and sits like a giant gem.

In the words of Oscar Tusquets: ‘In homage to Enzo Mari, who called his chair Tonietta, a derivative of Thonet, I have called this chair Gaulinetta, in allusion to the Gaulino’. Inspired by Antonio Gaudí and Carlo Mollino, Tusquets created “Gaulino” in 1987. It was a handcrafted industrial chair with a contoured wooden frame, slender, streamlined legs and soft, rich leather. The handcrafted chair became a modern icon of 20th century design. The Gaulinetta is an adaptation of this design, influenced by Enzo Mari and his Tonietta chair. The reduced armrests create an elegant model for dining in smaller spaces and can be stored away after use. By creating a variant of the Thonet chair, Tusquets demonstrates how less can be more.

In production for over 25 years, the Jamaica Stool remains as modern as ever. Originally designed for a nightclub by Barcelona interior designer Pepe Cortés in 1991, the Jamaica has a chrome-plated steel frame with five legs and a swivel seat. Its materials and durability make the chair ideal for a variety of settings. It can fit in a private home, hotel, bar, retail shop or public space. Now available in black, in addition to the aluminium and beech version, the seat has a simple structure and a range of finishes and adjustments that make it dynamic and practical in a variety of settings.
