More than a Century of Excellence and Innovation at Franke
Hermann Franke founded the company in 1911 in Rorschach, Switzerland, initially as a sheet metal business. During this period, the company underwent significant expansion, moving to Aarburg in 1934 and beginning production of stainless steel sinks. These developments marked a turning point, establishing Franke as an innovator on the Swiss market with its rust-resistant products.
After the death of Hermann Franke in 1939, his son Walter took over the reins of the company. During his leadership, Franke continued its expansion and diversification. Combination kitchens were introduced and the commercial kitchen division was established. Internationalization began with the opening of a subsidiary in Germany and expansion to other European markets.
Willi Pieper took over Franke in 1975, and under his direction the company expanded beyond Europe. With the acquisition of the American company Progressive Corporation, Franke entered the US commercial kitchen market and became a supplier to McDonald’s. The Michael Pieper era began in 1989, characterized by global expansion and specialization around core activities. During this time, Franke transformed into a corporate group with operations throughout the world, focused on the Home Solutions, Food Service Systems and Coffee Systems divisions, being leaders in their respective sectors.
