House of Finn Juhl
Finn Juhl was an architect and industrial designer who, in the 1940s, coined the concept “Danish design” and introduced it to the United States. Finn Juhl argued that furniture should reflect the personality and originality of its creator, and have the practice of a functional art. The Pelican chair, the 45 chair, the Chieftain armchair or the Poet sofa are some of Finn Juhl’s iconic pieces that exemplify this criterion. Juhl became popular for creating unusual and expressive furniture, inspired by modern art; sculptural pieces influenced by surrealism, in which organic shapes and soft lines prevailed, arising from a precise joinery technique then adapted to the first productions of teak furniture and upholstery at an industrial level.
The Danish firm Onecollection has been republishing Finn Juhl’s creations since 2001, the date on which Finn Juhl’s widow entrusted Onecollection with the exclusive rights to manufacture and relaunch Finn Juhl’s sculptural and iconic furniture. Today, the exclusive Finn Juhl collection consists of 40 classic masterpieces, all of which Onecollection manufactures with the utmost respect for their original heritage and strict quality demands.
