Jonathan Muecke approaches both furniture design and sculpture with the goal of uncovering and expressing the inherent logic of the materials he works with. The Muecke Wood chair stems from his desire to celebrate all the qualities of wood, including the end grain. To achieve this, he transformed the wood into rounded dowels and developed a joining system that allows them to connect at the points where they intersect. “You can understand the piece of wood,” he says. “It’s not disguised. It’s there for you to understand again and again.”
The chair highlights the natural beauty of wood, with rounded dowels crossing on nearby planes and connecting through a floating tenon joint. This distinctive and visible construction solution is repeated throughout the entire collection.
It is part of the Muecke Wood Collection.
