USM Haller
Since its founding in the heart of Switzerland, USM Haller has become a global leader in modular furniture systems. Its history, characterised by innovation and precision, is also an example of how architecture and design can come together to create functional, elegant and timeless solutions.
Modular design with a Swiss soul: USM Haller
It all began in 1885, when Ulrich Schärer founded USM in the Swiss town of Münsingen. In its early days, the company specialised in the manufacture of fittings and locks. However, the real turning point came in 1961, when Paul Schärer—the founder’s grandson—commissioned the Swiss architect Fritz Haller to design a new factory building.
The modular and rationalist approach of this architecture inspired a revolutionary idea: what if that same construction logic were applied to furniture? From this shared vision, the USM Haller system was born in 1963, consisting of metal tubes joined by connecting spheres that allow for the creation of fully customisable structures: from shelving to tables, including chests of drawers, display cabinets and filing cabinets.
This modular system is characterised not only by its elegance and functionality, but also by its ability to adapt to any environment: offices, homes, commercial spaces or museums. USM Haller is an example of timeless design that evolves with the user’s needs without ever losing its essence.
Today, more than half a century later, USM remains synonymous with Swiss quality, engineering precision and aesthetic sustainability. Its iconic design is not subject to passing fads: it is a statement of principles. That is why choosing USM Haller means opting for furniture that not only organises spaces, but also defines them with style and personality.
