Thomas Eriksson: Architecture, Functionalism and Contemporary Swedish Design

Trained as an architect at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Thomas Eriksson founded his studio TEA (Thomas Eriksson Arkitekter) in 1989. His work has ranged from large-scale architectural projects to product and furniture design for brands such as Asplund, where he has made his mark with an understated, rational, and timeless style.

Eriksson understands design as an extension of architecture: clean lines, balanced proportions, and an absence of unnecessary elements. Each piece is the result of a pursuit of structural simplicity and formal efficiency, without compromising comfort or elegance.

Among his most representative designs is:

  • Cross medicine cabinet: A cross-shaped metal wall cabinet that reinterprets the traditional household medicine cabinet through a clean, graphic, and functional approach. Its iconic design makes it a decorative object with a practical purpose, ideal for both homes and public spaces.

Thomas Eriksson embodies the essence of contemporary Nordic design: clear forms, refined functionality, and an understated aesthetic that prioritises overall harmony. His work demonstrates how architecture and design can interact with balance and simplicity.
